Key Considerations for the Use of Polyacrylamide

Newstime:2025-05-15        Source:Polyacrylamide

During the water purification process, we encounter numerous water treatment chemicals, with polyacrylamide being one such agent suitable for diverse industries. However, to ensure it delivers optimal performance and efficacy across various sectors, certain key considerations must be observed during application. This approach guarantees satisfactory results. So, what should we pay attention to during its use?

When employing polyacrylamide, one must understand aspects such as sludge characteristics, ion charge, flocculation properties, and solubility. Prior to use, it is essential to ascertain the origin, properties, composition, and proportion of the sludge to be treated. Sludge can be categorised as either organic or inorganic. Anionic products are suitable for treating inorganic sludge. When the sludge has a high solids content, the dosage of polyacrylamide must be increased accordingly. Next is ion charge and molecular weight. Water treatment efficacy varies significantly with different ion charges and molecular weights. It is advisable to conduct small-scale trials beforehand to select the appropriate product type. This ensures optimal performance while effectively reducing consumption and saving considerable costs. Flocculation is another critical factor. Floc size directly impacts treatment effectiveness: excessively small flocs impede drainage rates, Conversely, excessively large flocs constrain water flow and reduce sludge dryness. An appropriate molecular weight regulates floc size. Therefore, meticulous selection of molecular weight is essential during application. Finally, dissolution is critical. Thoroughly dissolved products deliver optimal flocculation. When dissolution speed requires acceleration, increasing product concentration is necessary. Strict adherence to usage precautions during operation ensures both effective water purification and significant cost savings.
Key Considerations for the Use of Polyacrylamide

Molecular weight, as a critical consideration for polyacrylamide products, directly influences efficacy. Before selecting molecular weight, the fundamental requirement must be determined: anionic, cationic, or non-ionic type. Typically, this is judged based on wastewater pH. Acidic water generally requires cationic products, while alkaline water favours anionic types. Non-ionic products exhibit minimal sensitivity to pH fluctuations under acidic conditions. They also demonstrate superior floc strength and flocculation properties compared to anionic variants. Specifically, for sludge dewatering applications, molecular weights ranging from 7 to 12 million are recommended. For general industrial wastewater treatment, products with molecular weights between 6 and 18 million are suitable. It is crucial to understand that molecular weight selection varies significantly across different industrial sectors.
