Polyacrylamide

        Polyacrylamide is frequently used as a flocculant in water purification. It possesses excellent flocculation properties and can reduce frictional resistance between water molecules. Classified by ion, it can be divided into four types: anionic, cationic, nonionic, and amphoteric. Its molecular weight ranges from 4 million to 20 million. Polyacrylamide is widely used in water purification across various industries, including metallurgy, coal washing, printing and dyeing, textiles, papermaking, steel, petroleum, food processing, drinking water, and tap water, among many others.
 

• Flocculation occurs relatively quickly. The resulting flocs are large and dense, with extremely fast settling speed.
• In the water treatment industry, it can be used as a flocculant, coagulant, coagulant aid, dewatering agent, and decolorizing agent.
• In the treatment of wastewater from paper mills, it is used as a retention aid and strengthening agent.
• When used as a flocculant, polyacrylamide enables suspended particles in wastewater to achieve flocculation through charge bridging and adsorption.
• It can act as an adhesive in various industries due to its physicochemical properties.
• In oil drilling, it is used as an oil displacement agent and a water-reducing agent, showcasing the unique effects of amide.
• It can also be used as a thickener, drag reducer, and in biomedical applications.

1. Conduct a small-scale test using beakers to determine the type, quantity, and molecular weight of polyacrylamide to determine the optimal dosage.
2. Prepare a 0.1% concentration solution of polyacrylamide. The solution concentration should be adjusted appropriately based on the specific industry and water quality.
3. When dissolving the amide in water, add the PAM to the water first and stir continuously and rapidly until uniform. The water temperature must be above 60 degrees Celsius for rapid dissolution.
4. The prepared solution should be used on the same day. Using it the following day will cause the agent to gradually lose its effectiveness.
5. Add the solution to the reaction tank and stir continuously and uniformly. Flocs will quickly form in the reaction tank. Observe while stirring. If the flocs are small and the turbidity is high, the dosage of polyacrylamide is too low. If the flocs are large and tumbling upwards, the dosage of amide is too high, and adjustments need to be made.
