Wastewater Treatment for Livestock Farms

Newstime:2026-02-25        Source:Polyacrylamide

The most challenging aspect of treating livestock farm effluent is the management of manure from pig farms, cattle farms, donkey farms and other livestock operations. The use of polyaluminium chloride can resolve this difficult problem. Livestock effluent is classified as organic wastewater. The effluent contains high levels of COD, BOD, heavy metal ions, ammonia and nitrogen, making it difficult to treat during the water purification process. A combination of multiple treatment processes is required to meet national effluent discharge standards.

Chemicals used: polyacrylamide and polyaluminium chloride

Procedure: First, thoroughly dissolve the solid polyaluminium chloride at a concentration of 3%–5%. The exact concentration should be determined on-site, and the dissolution time is relatively short. During this process, ensure thorough and uniform stirring to facilitate complete dissolution. After standing, open the valve to allow the solution to be added to the wastewater. Observe the volume and water quality of the wastewater on-site and continuously adjust the dosage of polyaluminium chloride accordingly. If polyacrylamide and polyaluminium chloride are to be used together, it is advisable to add the polyaluminium chloride first. Under no circumstances should they be mixed and added simultaneously, as this will fail to achieve the desired water purification effect and will result in a waste of purification costs. Ensure there is a sufficient time interval between the addition of the two. It is recommended to conduct a small-scale trial using a wastewater sample prior to purification to determine the optimal dosage of the water treatment chemicals.
